ASTRONAUT GIVES SKY-HIGH VIEWS
One must work hard to achieve dreams, says former US astronaut
ALL successes start with an idea and it will only become a reality when one works hard, said former United States astronaut Dr Catherine Cady Coleman.
The polymer chemist said one must not stay idle but should strive to achieve success in life.
“We must learn how to write down and execute our ideas as this is where the success (story) begins. Dreams will come true only when we work towards achieving them, and only when we have interest and passion in realising them.”
Coleman, 57, was sharing her experience with 600 undergraduates at the “Let’s Explore the Universe” programme in conjunction with the Perak Festival of Ideas (PFoI) here yesterday.
She said she faced challenges in becoming an astronaut, but persevered and succeeded.
Present were Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and state Education, Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Datuk Dr Muhammad Amin Zakaria.
Zambry said youth should make use of platforms, such as PFoI and Pangkor International Development Dialogue (PIDD), to learn from others’ experience and build confidence.
“Coleman’s experience as an astronaut, having worked at the International Space Station for six months, is invaluable.”
Coleman is one of the speakers at PIDD, which starts today. She will share her experience living in outer space for six months and orbiting Earth 256 times.
