High achievers of NSTP staff’s children honoured
KUALA LUMPUR: Twenty-seven children of the New Straits Times Press Malaysia Berhad (NSTP) employees, who achieved excellent results in Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR), Form 3 Assessment (PT3) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia last year, were honoured at the NSTP’s Cooperative Members Excellent Academic Award 2017 here yesterday.
The ceremony was officiated by NSTP Cooperative chairman Mohd Fadzil Abdul Ghani.
Also present were NSTP Cooperative manager Ridzwan Ahmad and secretary Zulfakar Wahib.
Fadzil said the organising of the ceremony was a sign of the company’s support for the hard work of its staff’s children in achieving excellent results.
“It is hoped that this award will be a source of inspiration for recipients to achieve excellence, not only for themselves, but also for their families and the community.”
Fadzil said NSTP Cooperative emphasised the balance of career and family life, adding that despite being busy working, the welfare and trust of the family should be given priority.
Among the recipients were Faris Hilman Ramlan, who is the son of New Straits Times associate editor Sofea Chok Suat Ling.
Faris said his success in obtaining 7As in the PT3 exam was through discipline in attending group studies and tuition for two hours every day before the main examination.
He said there was no secret to his success except patience and perseverance.
For him, it was important to focus fully on the lessons by the teachers, as well as to immediately ask in class if he did not understand a topic being taught.
The event ended with an award presentation that included the handing over of cheques and excellent award certificates to the recipients.
