PICK UP TIPS IN PT3 WORKSHOP
Learn strategies on how to ace English paper from experienced teacher
WITH PT3 exams just around the corner, students can do last-minute preparations with the upcoming PT3 English Workshop organised by the New Straits Times.
The two-day workshop will be held on Sept 30 and Oct 1 from 10am to 5pm at the NIE Training Centre in Balai Berita, Bangsar.
Conducted by Jacob Mathew, an experienced English teacher of 28 years, the workshop will focus on giving students tips and strategies on how to ace the PT3 English examination paper.
“My focus will be on strategically answering the questions to score higher marks than before,” said Mathew.
“Based on my experience as a teacher teaching Form 3 English language, I have found a few common problems that students encounter in their preparations. So I will be touching on these in the workshop and working with the students to deal with the problems,” he added.
To tackle Section A – error identification, even though the error has been identified for the students, they still need to know how to rectify the errors. Mathew will reinforce students’ grammar and vocabulary so they will be able to score better in this section.
The error identification section in the PT3 examination tests usage of grammar items such as nouns, verbs, prepositions, conjunctions, articles, adverbs, adverb of manner, demonstration pronouns, and subject–verb agreement as well as tenses.
Section B of the paper requires students to write a short message, note or letter of about 50 words.
According to Mathew, some students do not know the correct format of writing the different types of essays required in Section D of the PT3 exam paper.
Mathew hopes to share his tips and strategies with students so they will be confident in answering the questions and score better.
The workshop costs RM170, inclusive of workshop materials and meals.
