THE Q&A

DATUK SHEILA MAJID

- By Aznim Ruhana Md Yusup aznim.ruhana@nst.com.my

1 WHAT IS YOUR FITNESS AIM?

To stay healthy, get my heart pumping, get that blood flow going. Not to stay slim.

2 ARE YOU A GYM JUNKIE OR OUTDOOR EXERCISER?

I prefer outdoors. I love doing things outdoors with my family.

3 WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE WORKOUT?

I love pilates. I’ve been doing it for 10 years, ever since I had my little girl and I enjoy it very much. I also like going to the park and looking at the flowers. When my husband goes running, my girls will be on their scooter and we just enjoy the scenery.

4 FAVOURITE TIME TO EXERCISE?

In the morning.

5 WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU’RE TOO LAZY TO EXERCISE?

I have my lazy days. I still don’t like to exercise but I have to do it. It’s for my work, it’s for my health. Let’s say I have a show tonight and if I don’t hit that note I’m going to kick myself so I get on the elliptical machine.

6 WHAT DO YOU DO FIRST THING IN THE MORNING?

I brush my teeth and drink some water.

7 WHAT’S YOUR TYPICAL BREAKFAST?

Yogurt and coffee.

8 WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE JUNK FOOD?

Chocolate. It’s my only vice.

9 WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PROTEIN?

I like fish, fried fish especially. It’s comfort food.

10 WHAT HAS EXERCISE TAUGHT YOU?

Exercise keeps me healthy so it’s worth doing it. I know sometimes it’s hard for us to do it, but if you have a choice between being sick and being healthy, let’s be healthy. Whenever you feel lazy, just imagine yourself as a couch potato with all kinds of diseases. That should get you up and going.

You don’t have to be thin, because even thin people have health problems. But just get your heart pumping, make sure enough oxygen is flowing through your body and that your limbs are mobile.
