DATIN Seri Rosmah Mansor has been busy in the United States, having paid a visit to the Feynman School for the Gifted and engaging with PERMATApintar students in the country on Tuesday.

The school in North Bethesda, Maryland, enrolls gifted learners aged 5 to 14 from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. It is an independent co-educational school where bright, curious and creative children surrounded by peers can explore their gifts and fulfil their potential.

It is similar to the Permata programme in Malaysia, of which Rosmah is patron.

During the visit, Rosmah entered classrooms, interacted with students and listened to a presentation by school head Susan Gold, executive director Robert Gold and curriculum development director Maya Manning.

The school blends acceleration, higher-order thinking, critical reasoning and interdisciplinary connection to enhance creativity and elevate deep understanding of the real world.

Following the visit, Rosmah held an engagement session with 15 PERMATApintar students studying in the east coast and mid-west regions of the US.

The session at the official residence of the Malaysian ambassador in Forest Hill, Washington, D.C. saw students share with Rosmah issues of moving forward in their postgraduate studies, mapping their postgraduate studies with Malaysian needs and their roles in helping Malaysia towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution and National Transformation 2050.

Rosmah advised students not to stop at undergraduate studies, but pursue postgraduate studies and even post-doctorates.

She said Permata, through the Permata Top STEM Talent Centre and Yayasan Pintar, would assist gifted and academically-talented students who need financial aid to transition from undergraduate studies to postgraduate.

The assistance, in the form of a “stop-gap” measures, aims to increase the students’ chances to gain admission into graduate schools of their choice in fields of studies Malaysia needs in 2050.

Rosmah is in the US with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for an invited meeting with President Donald Trump.
