‘Trump’s treatment shows his confidence in Najib’
JOHOR BARU: The first-class treatment that United States President Donald Trump gave to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is proof that Najib’s image has not been tarnished internationally.
Pasir Gudang Umno Youth chief Azman Jaafar said Trump’s treatment showed the confidence a world leader had in Najib.
“Trump’s body language shows that the warmth between the two leaders is not something that is made up, but is something that is sincere and full of hope and confidence,” he said yesterday.
Azman said even Singaporean media published positive reports on Najib’s meeting with Trump, saying that Najib had even beaten Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in meeting the US president.
“They also aired a speech by Trump about the big role Najib and the Malaysian government play in the fight against terrorism in Southeast Asia.
“The US media have also reported on how Malaysia is a country that can be trusted for future investments, and that Malaysia is not a failed and bankrupt state as claimed by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Lim Kit Siang and other opposition leaders.”
He said the success of Najib’s administration in securing huge investments from Saudi Arabia, China, India and France showcased the prime minister’s diplomacy skills.
“For the first time in the country’s history, the prime minister was invited by the US president to the White House.
“This shows that Najib’s leadership is approved and respected by bigger nations.”
He said Singaporean media also reported on Malaysia’s sustainable economy and how Malaysia was interested in buying 20 planes from Boeing over the next five years.
“Are these signs that Malaysia is a failed state that would soon become bankrupt?
“During Dr Mahathir’s administration, when the world was facing economic slowdown, Malaysia’s economy shrank and the stock market fell below 500 points.
“It is clearly different now because under Najib, our economy is growing and investments are pouring in. Until July, Malaysia’s trade have reached RM1 trillion.”
Azman said what was clear was that the issue of the US Department of Justice and 1Malaysia Development Bhd was a malicious fabrication made by Dr Mahathir and the opposition against Najib and the government.
“If the government succeeded in meeting and getting the support from the US leadership, the world, especially the bigger nations, would recognise Malaysia and investors would be more confident in investing in Malaysia.”
