Man held for FB royalty insult

KUALA LUMPUR: A 21-year-old man has been remanded for allegedly insulting the late Sultan of Kedah Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah on Facebook.

Federal police Commercial Crime Investigat­ion Department director Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the man was arrested at a house in Genting Highlands at 12.27am yesterday.

Acryl said the suspect was held under suspicion of uploading an offensive post on the late Sultan Abdul Halim on Facebook.

“He has been remanded for two days to help in investigat­ions. We have also seized a smartphone and a laptop,” he said yesterday.

He added that police were searching for another man who was also suspected of insulting the late sultan.

Both cases are being investigat­ed under Section 233 of the Communicat­ion and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network service.
