WANITA Umno chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil yesterday said Barisan Nasional has a higher chance of wresting Selangor from the opposition in the 14th General Election.

She said this was because feedback gathered by the party’s election machinery showed that voters in Selangor were unhappy with the poor services provided by the state government .

“From the survey conducted by Wanita Umno and BN, we received grouses and complaints from the people in Selangor over the failure of the state government and its representatives in taking care of the people’s welfare.

“The members of parliament and assemblymen are only great in making promises and on social media, but in reality, they failed to serve their state constituencies and parliamentary areas.

“This is in contrast with BN and Umno leaders, who have been consistent in fighting for the people,” Shahrizat said after a meeting with Umno Wanita members from Tanjong Karang, Sungai Besar and Sabak Bernam divisions under the wing’s “Kembara Ibu Terbaik Bangsa PRU 14” programme in Sekinchan here earlier yesterday.

Present were Selangor Wanita Umno chief Datin Paduka Norhayati Onn and Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos, who represented Selangor BN chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar.

Shahrizat said those living in urban areas complained about ease of doing business, sanitation and taxes, while those in rural areas lamented the PKR-led state government’s lack of assistance and failure in bringing development to their areas.

“Truth be told, the state government’s success today is based only on what the BN government had built when it helmed Selangor.

“We believe that BN has higher chance of taking back Selangor this election based on our performance in serving the people.”

On Wanita Umno’s representatives for Selangor, Shahrizat said the wing would push the party’s top leadership to field more women candidates to contest in the state.

Currently, BN has only two women representatives in Selangor — Datuk Rosni Sohar (Hulu Bernam) and Datuk Halimaton Saadiah Bohan (Kota Damansara).
