AFTER being named The Funniest Person in the World last year, funnyman Harith Iskander receives an Asean award for his craft.

The 51-year-old has been honoured by Asean for his brilliance in stand-up comedy.

Harith, who was a guest entertainer at the Asean Association of People’s Associations (Asean Pac) Golden Jubilee Gala Dinner at SLS Hotel in Los Angeles, the United States, last Saturday was awarded the Asean 50th Award for Extraordinary Performance in the presence of consulate-generals of Asean countries.

The award was presented to Harith by the dinner’s guest of honour, the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

A delighted Harith thanked his fans around the world, especially Malaysians, for their support and promised them that he will continue to progress in his career as a world-class comedian.

In an Instagram post, Harith said: “It would never have happened had it not been for the support of all my fans from Malaysia and all over the world since I first started back in the Jangan Ketawa days.

“I owe you guys everything and will always feel blessed and grateful for the love you have all shown me.

“Thank you every single one of you, who has always had a kind word to say to me when we meet or just enjoyed any of my shows or programmes.”

When contacted by the New Straits Times yesterday, the father-of-three said: “I also performed at two comedy clubs, namely Flappers in Burbank and Laugh Factory in Hollywood. My wife, Jezamine (Lim Iskander), and I are spending a week in Los Angeles and we’ll be home on Sunday.”

Harith, who has also performed before dignitaries in Beijing and Hong Kong, said his next major performance would be at a new comedy club in Kuala Lumpur in November.

“The club will elevate live comedy — fans can look forward to weekly shows by the best local and foreign comedians!” said Harith, whose stand-up comedy titled I Told You So will be aired for television audiences in November.

The two-night show, staged at the HRH Convention Centre in Sentul, was attended by 2,000 people.
