THE foreigner who was left stranded on the ledge of a building in Taman TTDI Jaya here yesterday was abducted over unsettled debts. Shah Alam district police deputy chief Superintendent Nek Zaidi Zakaria said initial investigations revealed that the victim, a 40-year-old Pakistani businessman, was abducted by three men at about 8pm yesterday.

He said the abductors, including a foreigner of Arab descent, had taken the victim to a shop house at Jalan Opera G and locked him there.

“The victim was kept inside the shop house until he was found at about 6.30am and rescued.

“Initial investigations revealed that the abduction was motivated by money.

“The victim had allegedly failed to settle his debt to another businessman, who is based in Shah Alam,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Nek Zaidi said the case was being investigated under Section 342 of the Penal Code for wrongful detention.

Earlier this morning, a team of firemen from Kota Anggerik fire station was rushed to the scene after receiving a report of a man trapped in the building.

They found the man, who was handcuffed, sitting on a ledge at the building’s first floor.

Rescuers then used a ladder to bring the victim to safety before handing him over to the police.
