-

KUALA LUMPUR: He suffered a broken leg, broken ribs and burns to his face.

But 13-year-old Indra Kurniawan Muhammad Amirul Azam can count himself lucky, as he was among those who survived a deadly fire in Kampung Datuk Keramat yesterday.

The dawn fire at the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah tahfiz school claimed 23 lives, including those of two wardens.

Indra’s mother, Hermayani Normatias, said at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital emergency room yesterday that her son was unconscious.

She said Indra was being treated in the emergency room due to his injuries.

“I was on my way to work at 7.30am when I received a call, telling me that the my son’s school was on fire.”

She said the last time she met him was during Hari Raya Aidiladha.

She said Indra did not appear to be himself as he did not go out with his friends.

“He was reserved and preferred to be alone,” she said.

Apart from Indra, six others are at the same hospital receiving treatment.
