VW to recall 4.86m vehicles in China starting March 2018
BEIJING: Volkswagen AG (VW) and its Chinese joint ventures FAW-Volkswagen and SAIC Volkswagen will recall 4.86 million vehicles due to issues with airbags supplied by bankrupt car parts maker Takata Corp, said China’s quality watchdog yesterday.
The recall comes after the watchdog asked the German carmaker, General Motors Co and Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz earlier this year to recall vehicles equipped with Takata airbags.
General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine estimated more than 20 million cars in China had airbags made by Takata. It said the recall would begin in March next year.
Meanwhile, at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt yesterday, VW chief executive Matthias Mueller said the firm was aiming to sell 1.5 million electric cars in China by 2025.
