11 buried in Batu Muda, 4 buried in Jalan Ampang

AMIDST heavy rains and much sorrow, the victims of the early morning blaze at the Darul Quran Ittifaqiya­h tahfiz school were laid to rest yesterday.

Eleven were laid to rest at the Raudhatul Sakinah Muslim Cemetery in Batu Muda, Gombak, while another four were laid to rest at the Jalan Ampang Muslim Cemetery.

The eleven were: Muhammad Aidil Aqmal Mohd Zamzuri (10); Ahmad Harith Adam Mohd Nor Hadi, (12); Muhammad Nizammudin Nasrun (13); Muhammad Taufik Hidayat Norazizan (16); Amiel Asyraaf Abd Rasid (11); Muhammad Zattulah Roslan (11); Muhammad Syafik Haikal Mohd Sulaiman (13); Muhammad Harris Ikhwan Mohd Sulaiman (10); Muhammad Danieal Md Amin (14); Muhammad Hafiz Iskandar Mohd Sulaiman (11) and Muhammad Hazim Ahmad Nor (13).

Another four — siblings Azkar Abiedi F. Zaska, 11, and Azkar Dariemi F. Zaska, 8; and their cousin Muhammad Afiq Haqimie Hairulizwa­n, 11 and another student, Nik Muhammad Ridzuan Nik Azlan, 12 — were buried at the Jalan Ampang cemetery.

At the Raudhatul Sakinah cemetery, the burial took place at night and during heavy rain.

Next of kin, relatives, members of the public and media arrived at the cemetery as early as 2pm.

Family members were seen weeping and offering prayers as the remains were individual­ly lowered into their respective graves. Six of the deceased were buried before Maghrib prayers while the remaining were laid to rest after the prayers.

Three siblings, Muhammad Syafik Haikal Mohd Sulaiman, Muhammad Harris Ikhwan Mohd Sulaiman and Muhammad Hafiz Iskandar Mohd Sulaiman were buried next to each other.

At the Jalan Ampang cemetery, a solemn mood enveloped the air as about 70 family members and friends gathered there for the funeral ceremony.

Many of them including children who were believed to be the victims’ cousins tried to get as close as possible to see the victims for the last time as they were lowered into the grave.

Close family members were seen wiping their tears under the tent covering the grave.

The rest of the victims were laid to rest at Muslim cemeteries at several locations while the two wardens were buried in Kelantan and Perak, respective­ly.

Jenazah prayers were performed earlier at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital surau. Victims were identifed via DNA testing.
