PPIM hands 30 CCTV footages to police

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia (PPIM) has handed 30 closed-circuit television (CCTV) video footages to the police to assist in their probe into the deadly fire at Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah tahfiz school.

PPIM’s office building is located next to the school in Jalan Keramat Hujung here.

Hoping the footages would provide clues on the incident, its president Datuk Nadzim Johan said they included views of the front and back entrances of the school.

“We have 30 CCTVs and we can see the entrance and the back of the school.

“We gave the recordings to the police yesterday,” he said yesterday.

Nadzim said the video footage showed a group of more than 10 people loitering around the area at 7pm on Wednesday.

However, he said, PPIM could not confirm whether the group was involved in the fire on Thursday morning.

Addressing a rumour that the blaze could have been aimed at PPIM, Nadzim said: “We do not know, but if it is really for revenge, they must be blind, they sent it to the wrong place.

“If there was any possible sabotage, we will definitely report it to police and follow the law.

“We leave it to police and the Fire and Rescue Department to investigate,” he said.

Nadzim added that he was saddened by the deaths and hoped that the authorities and society would take more proactive actions to ensure the safety and welfare of tahfiz students and institutions.

“Yes, this incident has been fated, but we cannot blame fate for our own recklessness.

“Recklessness leads to tragedy.

“Say no to this, we have to take action.

“There are 10,000 tahfiz schools nationwide. We cannot let this continue and lead to more deaths,” he said
