5 suspects waylay victim before fleeing with RM10,000

ASHOP owner not only survives being shot seven times at close range, but also manages to call the police. In the 10pm incident, Hassan Basri Ahmad Sutan Modo was shot in his Toyota Hilux in Jalan Besar Kuala Medang-Sungai Koyan here on Saturday night.

Police found him in a weak state and took him to a clinic in Sungai Koyan.

It was understood that the 55-year-old victim was driving to his home in Raub when he was confronted by a group of five men armed with pistols.

After blocking his vehicle’s path with their Proton Wira, they shot him seven times at close range before robbing him.

Confirming the incident, district police chief Superinten­dent Azry Akmar Ayob said the businessma­n sustained serious injuries.

“After being shot, the victim was robbed by the suspects, who fled with RM10,000.

“Police are investigat­ing whether revenge is the motive.

“They have not determined where the victim got the money and where he wanted to take it.”

He said police had taken statements from witnesses and were waiting for the victim to be in stable condition before recording his statement.

He said the victim, who was injured on the leg, hands and body was warded at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital.

He said the forensic unit was collecting fingerprin­ts, bullet casings and other evidence at the crime scene.

The matter was being investigat­ed under the Firearms Act for dischargin­g a firearm in the commission of an offence and for gang robbery under the Penal Code.
