Perfect campaign for track riders

-

IT has been barely three months since Nur Azlia Syafinaz Mohd Zais and Noraidillina Adilla J. Sam started training together and they have already forged a strong partnership on the tandem bike.

The duo proved it by winning a third gold medal at the Kuala Lumpur

Asean Para Games (Para KL2017) in the women’s 3km pursuit B class (blind/visually impaired) yesterday for a perfect end to their track campaign at the National Velodrome in Nilai.

Pilot rider Noraidillina stressed that this is only the start for the duo.

The pair still have another two events — time trial and mass start race — in the road discipline which starts today.

“We are very happy to be able to contribute to the nation’s medal tally,” said Noraidillina.

“However, our job is not done yet, we still hope to win more gold for the country.

“We have a good understanding despite having just been paired together. We still have a lot more to improve on.”

Azlia, who is better know among friends as ‘Peanut’, added that she is hoping to go all the way to the Paralympics.

“I have been able to do well thanks to the guidance given by Noraidillina. I hope to qualify for the Tokyo Paralympics.”

Azlia previously competed in track and field but made the switch to cycling.

The duo won the 1km and sprint events on Sunday. Sukhairi Thani
