I once survived on instant noodles, sardines in the US, says Yuna

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Surviving on instant noodles or canned sardines is perhaps an experience many Malaysians had endured, especially when they first move out of their parents’ house.

Yuna is undoubtedly an international superstar now, but even she was not spared the humbling experience when she first moved to Los Angeles, the United States, several years ago.

In an Instagram posting on Wednesday, she shared an image of her dressed up for a private event for luxury house Cartier.

The US-based singer wrote: “You can achieve a small amount of success, or a huge one, but you never could have done it by yourself.

“Someone in your life, somewhere, was there to help you. I feel like a lot of people nowadays think that if they become something, they did it all by themselves.

“But I always knew someone went out of their way for me when I needed help, when I had nothing.

“Once, I had to split RM50 with my bandmates and crew, and sometimes they worked for free because we didn’t get paid.

“Or, when I first moved to Los Angeles, I ate instant noodles or rice, and sardines on alternate days to save money because everything was too expensive there.

“But I had friends who looked after me and got me food. You know. Stuff like that.

“I will remember forever. Thank you. photo: @allisamazing // Me at the @Cartier event with the team.”

Yuna is currently back here, and on Sunday, was one of the performers at the opening ceremony of ninth Asean Para Games (Para KL2017) at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
