Russian fairytales come alive

The Malaysian Philharmon­ic Orchestra presents music from universal tales and excerpts from ballet scores, writes Dennis Chua

THE Malaysian Philharmon­ic Orchestra will take you on a musical trip to Russia and present magical fairytales in the form of classical gems at 8.30pm tomorrow and 3pm on Sunday at Dewan Filharmoni­k Petronas, KLCC, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.

These concerts will feature substantia­l excerpts from two full-length ballet scores, both by Russians and based on beloved universal fairytales about a handsome prince in search of a beautiful maiden whom, following many difficulti­es, he eventually finds and marries.

The MPO will also perform Bartok’s

collaborat­ing with French violinist Renaud Capucon, who has performed with many prominent orchestras such as the Philadelph­ia Orchestra, Leipzig Gewandhaus and the Philharmon­ia.

A prolific recording artiste, he has collaborat­ed with luminaries such as JeanYves Thibaudet, Martha Argerich, Yuri Bashmet and Truls Mork.

Deneve who has collaborat­ed with the MPO in 2012.

Music director of the Brussels Philharmon­ic, he is recognised for his exceptiona­l quality of his performanc­e on the podium, weaving magic on the world’s most renowned orchestras.

He also has a special affinity for the music of his native France. A passionate advocate for new music, he has led opera production­s at La Scala, Deutsche Oper Berlin and Netherland­s Opera.
