Set up anti-gangsterism unit, govt urged
KUALA LUMPUR: MIC has urged the government to form a social ills and gangsterism monitoring and prevention unit to ensure the effective and holistic implementation of intervention programmes.
This was part of seven resolutions unanimously passed by the party delegates at the party’s 71st general assembly here yesterday.
The resolution stated: “Teenage social ills can compromise the prosperity of the family, community and country.
“Despite programmes and preventive measures undertaken by government agencies and bodies, social problems are at a worrying rate in the Indian community.
“The unit will study the cause, factors and implications of the problems and implement holistic intervention programmes.”
MIC also proposed that the Rukun Negara principles be applied to all forms of development as well as in the education system.
Delegates called on the government to plan and implement a new education policy that would make it compulsory for children to have early, primary and secondary education.
“A platform for specialised fields in the skills sector must be provided for students whose academic achievements are less than satisfactory, based on their potential.
“Education is the key to stability and national prosperity.”
Party members urged the government to implement policies to empower Indian entrepreneurs through training schemes and grants that were more robust and effective.
They said the party needed to make structural and human capital changes to ensure that it remained relevant.
“The party gives its full support to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who has provided stability and prosperity to the Indian community through initiatives and economic development programmes, including the Malaysian Indian Blueprint.
“We also pledge our support for party president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.”
