PREPARATIONS for the Progressive Johor Expo are underway, with less than two weeks to go for the biggest event organised by the Johor government. State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Md Jais Sarday said the event from Oct 6 to 14 would showcase the state’s achievements, particularly in the past three years.

A total of 150 exhibitors comprising state government agencies and the private sector, representatives from the 16 local authorities in Johor and government-linked companies (GLCs) are taking part.

Half a million visitors are expected throughout the nine-day expo, which will be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and closed by his deputy, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“The inaugural expo will highlight the rapid development, steady progress and thriving economic growth that transformed Johor into one of the main economic powerhouses in the region.

“The objective of the Progressive Johor Expo is to showcase the rapid transformation taking place in Johor. More im- portantly, it will show Johoreans that the state government has been delivering its pledges to the people,” Jais said after a walkabout at the expo site at Dataran Mahkota, in Kota Iskandar here yesterday.

Jais said rapid development took place under the leadership of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, and the state administration’s efficiency was further enhanced by the introduction of the Suara Hati Johor Plan in 2014.

The Suara Hati Johor Plan had set in place a performance-based evaluation for the state administration and took into account the views and welfare of the people in the state’s development plan, among other things.

“The expo will show the people what has been done under the Johor Strategic Growth Plan 2016-2020, with 300 touchpoints delivered so far and another 126 touch-points to be delivered this year,” he said.

Jais said the Johor government would unveil a 12-point aspiration for the next phase of the state’s mission and launch a new rent-to-own housing scheme at the expo.

There will be a trade and consumerism carnival, job fair and fringe events held in conjunction with the expo.

The Progressive Johor Expo will be open from 10am to 10pm at Dataran Mahkota, Kota Iskandar.

Bus shuttle services will be provided to ferry visitors from Pasir Gudang, Gelang Patah and Johor Baru.
