Police seek lorry driver who disappeared after fatal accident

-

KUANTAN: Police are seeking public help to locate a tippertruck driver who allegedly fled after his vehicle collided with a car, which killed three people on Monday.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Aziz Salleh said checks revealed that the last known address of the driver, identified as Bustami Rustam, was at Taman Sri Muda in Shah Alam, Selangor.

Aziz said although the address existed, police could not get any more details on the man.

“His transport company claimed that it only hired the driver last week and could not assist with our investigations.

“Police have reported the matter to the Land Public Transport Commission to investigate the company for hiring a foreigner without conducting proper background checks,” he said after releasing a photo-fit of the driver yesterday.

In the accident, three members of a family were killed and another seriously injured when their car collided with the lorry near Kampung Sungai Soi here at 4.50pm.

Investigations revealed that Bustami was driving to Kuantan from Sungai Soi, when he lost control of the lorry and collided with the car.

He is believed to have fled on foot after telling witnesses at the accident scene that he was going to report the collision to the police and his employer.
