AMIE Oliver gave this fantastic idea to me,” said top celebrity chef Datuk Redzuawan Ismail, fondly known as message from Jamie while I was filming a programme on Peranakan desserts in Melaka with host Donal Skehan for British Broadcasting Corporation’s (BBC) Good Food Channel,” he said.

Chef Wan said in his message, Oliver said he would love to sign Chef Wan up into his Food Tube online channel, which had more than three million subscribers.

“I told Jamie I would love to. But, I felt it would be better if I had my own channel, since I would be my own boss and get to determine its contents all the way.”

Chef Wan has known British chef Oliver for more than a decade after they met at a food festival in Sydney, Australia.

While he has yet to decide on the launch date of his channel, Chef Wan said among the stories he would feature include Malaysia’s diverse culinary traditions, its lesser-known recipes, outstanding chefs and restaurants, and special programmes that feature international chefs and their experiences cooking for Malaysians.

“I plan to have entertaining programmes that highlight the best of Malaysian street food, share the success stories of reputable restaurants and share cooking tips with viewers.

“Other than cooking, I will also introduce viewers to tourist destinations, since these come hand-in-hand with good food.”

On his recent win of two international awards, Food Ambassador 2017 and MasterChef Of The Year 2017, at the World Top Gourmet Awards 2017 held at Berjaya Times Square Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, Chef Wan said he was overjoyed and thanked fans for supporting him throughout his 26 year-career.

“I was taken by surprise when I was announced as the recipient of the two awards.

“The organisers had invited me to come as a guest, and I had the impression that my job was to only deliver a speech to the winners.”

He dedicated his awards to Malaysians who shared his love for good food and world-class culinary shows.
