Killer ran off with CCTV recording device, say cops

THE presence of a tapir, believed to have wandered out of the nearby jungle, has shocked residents of Taman PJ Perdana here on Friday night. They sought help from the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan).

Its residents’ associatio­n chairman, Datuk Mazlan Sabli, said the protected wildlife animal was noticed by residents at 10pm.

“This is the second time a tapir has entered the housing area after the first incident last week. We believe it could have wandered from a nearby forest.”

He added that the animal was aggressive, probably due to an injury spotted on its foot.

“It had also damaged a resident’s fence when it crashed into it in its effort to KUANTAN: The attacker who stabbed a housewife to death on Friday had made off with valuables, including the closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) recording device from the victim’s house in Kampung Hijrah in Penor here.

Police, who were scouring the house for evidence, had been informed by the victim’s family that the device was among the missing items.

District police chief Assistant Commission­er Abdul Aziz Salleh said yesterday the house had six CCTV cameras installed, which would have recorded the incident.

“The suspect made off with the device. Police are looking for clues to help in our investigat­ion, including other missing valuables.”

Mazlan said the residents contacted Perhilitan for action.

The fishmonger said the CCTV device would help to track the suspect, but the culprit had stolen it.

“I am praying hard that police find the culprit and bring the person to justice.”
