CARMEN YULIN CRUZ, San Juan mayor JAKARTA: Malaysians in or planning to visit Bali are advised to contact the Malaysian Honorary Consul in Denpasar or the Malaysian Embassy here to inform them of their whereabouts while on the resort island.

Malaysian ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohamed Hashim said the advisory was issued to enable the consulate or embassy to contact Malaysians in case of an emergency.

Indonesian authorities had issued a high-alert warning on the possibility of Mount Agung erupting after being dormant for 50 years.

He said the embassy and consulate were monitoring the situation and were in contact with Malaysians in Bali, especially students, expatriates and tourists.

Malaysian students staying within a 12-km radius of the volcano had been advised to move to safer ground.

Zahrain suggested that Balibound Malaysian aircraft make public announcements for its Malaysian passengers to contact the consulate upon arriving at the resort island.

He said for the latest information, members of the public can visit the embassy’s Facebook page (@embassymalaysiajakarta) and Twitter account (@myembjkt); or, they could contact the embassy at +62 2152 24947 or +62 8138 0813 036 (after office hours) or email mwjakarta@kln.gov.my.
