Low-cost flats to have Anti-Vandalism System

-

KUANTAN: The Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry will soon implement the Anti-Vandalism System (AVS) at low-cost flats nationwide to ensure the safety of residents.

Its minister, Tan Sri Noh Omar, said his ministry had issued access cards to residents, besides installing closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the flats’ elevators.

He said AVS had been implemented in Selangor, Klang Valley and Negri Sembilan, adding that it would be expanded to other states in stages.

Noh said AVS, which was implemented early this year, would improve security and allow residents to live in a more conducive environment.

Newly built low-cost flats, he said, would also have the system.

Existing elevators at older flats that require major repair works would be installed with the new system, he added.

“Elevators are used by those living in high-rise and low-cost flats. So, the ministry wants to ensure that they are not in a neglected state.

“We understand that hundreds of residents use the lifts daily and they have to be in tip-top condition,” he said after visiting lowcost flats in Kampung Pak Mahat in Tanjung Lumpur here yesterday.

Noh said the access cards, meanwhile, would help reduce crime by preventing strangers from entering the flats.

“The CCTV cameras will prevent vandalism, besides putting a stop to residents bringing their motorcycles into their homes.”

Noh announced a RM5 million government allocation to improve the facilities at the flats in Tanjung Lumpur, besides building a new water tank to replace the existing one.
