Forest City Hackathon boosts entrepreneurship
JOHOR BARU: Forest City master developer, Country Garden Pacificview Sdn Bhd (CGPV), and the Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC) held a hackathon event for 60 youths to create mobile apps and websites.
The three-day Forest City Hackathon and Youth Entrepreneurship Dialogue was organised in conjunction with the World Habitat Day yesterday.
The event, a corporate social responsibility initiative by CGPV, was supported by the Malaysia Entrepreneurs Development Association (PUMM).
The participants were divided into 12 groups and had to come up with prototype business models, which blended entrepreneurial skills and IT-savviness to address environmental issues.
Team GarGeon comprising brothers Jacky and Darren Tee, Sam Young Chin, Ng Chee Lim and Cheong Hoong Jun were winners of the event.
They came up with an automated solution that promoted recycling.
CGPV president Dr Yu Runze said the hackathon was in line with Forest City’s vision of building a world-class Smart and Green City, and to become a youth entrepreneurial base in Southeast Asia.
“Forest City will have its own technology and innovation hub to boost the country’s IT, communications support and software development industry.”
The dialogue segment featured PUMM representative Victor Lee, Kelab Alami co-founder Dr Serina Rahman and MaGIC’s Jacques Sun.
