Bread-and-butter issues to be discussed
BREAD-AND-BUTTER issues affecting prospective homebuyers will take centre stage at the three-day MyRumah Property Showcase from Friday.
Event co-organiser and SuperiorWealth Group chief executive officer Alan Poon said the event would include forums and talks featuring dozens of experts.
This is the fourth edition of the showcase organised by the New Straits Times Press (NSTP). It will feature 20 speakers covering all aspects involved in the purchase and sale of properties.
“This year’s instalment is important because 2017 is coming to an end,” Poon said at Balai Berita yesterday.
Present was NSTP Agency and SME Ad-Sales general manager Roche Chew.
Speakers include lawyer Datuk Nazri Mustafa, who will touch on procedures involved in the sale and purchase of realty, and Ivan Chan, who will give an overview on the laws governing strata ownership.
“Whether buyers and sellers like lawyers or not, they have to
go through legal processes governing their transactions.
“There is a need to re-educate people on the importance of having lawyers who will protect their rights and interests,” said Nazri, whose talk will be held on Sunday at noon.
Chan, who speaks on Sunday at 6pm, said he would touch on laws regulating stratified development, including the Strata Management Act, strata management regulations, strata management tribunal and enforcement provisions under the law.
Amsyari Zarir Abdul Shakur
will speak on taxation aspects involving ownership and disposal on Sunday at 5pm.
“Most buyers do not budget taxation into their costs and potential gains and do not see the importance of settling their taxes in terms of revenue reaped from rental and such,” said Amsyari.
Property expert Max Shangkar, who will speak on Sunday at 1pm, said 2017 and 2018 were ideal years to buy properties due to affordable prices and soft economic conditions, adding that investors who missed this cycle might not get to buy for a long time.
Regional property investment expert Datuk Seri Matthew Yeoh, who will speak on Saturday at 3pm, said Malaysians should not miss the boat.
He said China’s investments through the Belt and Road Initiative and “overheating markets” in other countries made Malaysia an attractive place for foreign investors.
This year’s showcase will be held at The Curve in Mutiara Damansara. The three previous events saw 67 properties sold for RM30 million and attracted 15,000 visitors.
