Muhammad: I never intended to pull 8 PKR reps into Umno
SHAH ALAM: Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib has denied allegations that he tried to pull eight PKR assemblymen into Umno.
The former Selangor menteri besar, who rejoined Umno last month, said he never had such intention and was puzzled by the claim.
“I do not know who is the spin master who created this story, and where he got his information from.
“The only thing I know is I wanted to rejoin Umno. I was not planning to bring anyone with me.
“I only wanted (a platform) to speak to Malays.
“If there was such a plan, it was not mine. If someone else had the plan, I do not know.”
Muhammad said this at his house in Section 7 here, where he responded to allegations that he was part of a plot to bring down the PKR-led state government.
Muhammad’s return to Umno was announced by party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Sept 17. Several hours after the announcement, rumours were rife that Muhammad had wanted to bring in eight PKR representatives to the Umno Supreme Council meeting that day.
It was also claimed that a new coalition government would be formed in Selangor, comprising assemblymen from Pas, Umno and former Selangor menteri besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
Muhammad apologised to Malays for leaving Umno in 2013.
Muhammad, who helmed the state for 11 years, said he realised that no party, except Umno, fought for the Malay agenda.
