Parti Warisan Sabah ‘stands firmly with vice-president’

-

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah is standing firmly behind its vice-president, Datuk Peter Anthony, who was remanded for five days in a probe into the mishandling of federal-funded rural projects in Sabah.

The party’s other vice-president, Junz Wong, reflected this sentiment yesterday in a post on his Facebook account, which was shared by the party’s official Facebook page.

The Likas assemblyman said the move was one of many attempts to discredit Parti Warisan Sabah leaders as the 14th General Election was approaching.

“Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal arrived at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport this morning (yesterday) with a strong crowd of supporters welcoming him to show solidarity with Parti Warisan Sabah in the wake of political intimidation on Peter, who was detained by MACC (the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) yesterday (Thursday).

“We will give full solid support and stand firmly with Peter because we know there is no case,” he said in the post.

Wong stated that they were not surprised and had prepared themselves for something like this a few months before.

“Peter was not arrested. He cooperated by reporting to the MACC office to get his statement recorded, which he has done many times. But, this time, he was detained despite giving cooperation.

“More of such incidents might occur, but we are ready to face whatever challenges ahead.”

He claimed that Parti Warisan Sabah was targeted as it was the only party that was able to bring Barisan Nasional down in the state.

“Political struggle for Sabah is a long process and it is not an easy task. So, we will overcome every challenge when it comes,” he said.
