PM: AID DISTRIBUTION MORE STRUCTURED

Giving aid at a flat rate worsens economic disparity, says Najib

- KUALA LUMPUR

GOVERNMENT aid is now distributed in a more structured way rather than at a flat rate as the latter only worsens economic disparity, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

He said the introduction of seven types of discount cards for different groups had eased the people’s burden.

Among the cards are the Friends of KPDNKK (Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry) Card for everyone, Ceria Card for Federal Territories residents, OKU Card for the disabled and the Siswa 1Malaysia Discount Card for tertiary students, which can be used as a debit card, automated teller machine card and discount card.

“Members of the security forces are also given a special allocation under the 1Malaysia Privilege Card. Pensioners are also not forgotten with the provision of the Veterans Card and Government Pensioners Card,” he said yesterday on his blog at www.najibrazak.com.

He said the discount cards were among the initiatives to assist people in need.

“Policies to champion the less fortunate will always be the priority of the government.”

He said the government was concerned about the woes of the people regarding the increasing cost of living.

He said various initiatives had been carried out, such as controlling the prices of essential goods, to address the issue.

“But, it is impossible to control all goods as the country’s economy is becoming more complex.” Bernama
