Faizal nominated again for Best Southeast Asia Act

-

HIS reputable career as a singersongwriter-producer in Malaysia earned him a second nomination in the upcoming MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) 2017 to be held at The SSE Arena, Wembley, in London on Nov 13.

However, being the humble star that he is, Faizal Tahir said he had never placed winning awards as a benchmark for success.

“Having said that, it would still be great to win the award, as it will bring some kind of pride to my fans, Malaysia’s music industry and Malaysia in general,” Faizal, 38, said.

He is up against Isyana Sarasvati (Indonesia), The Sam Willows (Singapore), Slot Machine (Thailand), Palitchoke Ayanaputra (Thailand), James Reid (the Philippines) and Dam Vinh Hung (Vietnam).

As in previous years, the winner of the Best Southeast Asia Act Award is determined by online votes.

To cast your vote for Faizal, log on to MTV EMA’s official website, www.mtvema.com/en-asia. The voting period ends on Nov 11.

Faizal was nominated for the same award category in 2015, but luck was not on his side and the trophy went to Vietnam’s singersongwriter-actor, Sn Tùng M-TP.

“I was not disappointed back then because the competition is vote-based,” he said.

“Still, I have to give credit to and thank the local music industry and my fans for their effort in supporting me all this time.”

On whether he has plans to promote his music internationally, Faizal said at this point in his career, he preferred to take it one day at a time and just go with the flow.

“I am not saying I would never expand my career globally, but I believe in doing the right thing at the right time. And, now is not the right time.

“Of course, it would be great to have my music recognised globally, but if I deserve it, it will happen,” said the Gemuruh singer.

Faizal, who is a Kuala Lumpur native, has four albums under his belt.

MTV EMA 2017, now in its 24th year, gives recognition to international artistes in music.

It will be broadcast live on MTV Asia (Astro Channel 713).

The red carpet event at 3am will be followed by the awards show at 4am. By Bibi Nurshuhada Ramli
