PROTASCO TO OPEN 3-STAR HOTEL IN KAJANG

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Protasco Bhd will be opening a three-star hotel in De Centrum City, Kajang, in 2020 to cater to the growing business travellers segment in the area and families visiting students at nearby universities.

The first Park Inn by Radisson in Malaysia will be undertaken by Protasco Development Sdn Bhd and its whollyowned subsidiary De Centrum Retail Sdn Bhd.

Protasco will refurbish an existing ninestorey student hostel building at an expected cost of more than RM30 million and construction works are expected to commence next year.

“The Park Inn by Radisson will be located in a prime location amid the growing population in De Centrum City and the surrounding areas of Kajang, Bandar Baru Bangi and Putrajaya,” said Protasco group managing director and executive vice-chairman Datuk Seri Chong Ket Pen.

“We see good prospects for growth as there is untapped demand for hotel accommodation in the area. There are currently no comparable hotels within 5km of De Centrum City where the three universities are located with their student population exceeding 36,000,” he said.

The Park Inn by Radisson is a brand within United States-based Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group’s stable, which includes Radisson and Park Plaza brands.

Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific Investments Pte Ltd is wholly owned by Radisson Hotels International Inc, which in turn is wholly owned by Carlson Hotels.

Meanwhile, Protasco also launched its neighbourhood retail hub, the De Centrum Mall, in its 40.2ha De Centrum City development in Kajang yesterday.

“The De Centrum Mall is part of the growing community of De Centrum City, Protasco Bhd’s flagship development in the southern corridor of the Greater Klang Valley,” said Chong.

The neighbourhood mall is part of Phase 1 of De Centrum City, which will include a hotel, a convention centre, office towers and luxury condominiums once completed in the next 10 to 15 years.

The De Centrum Mall currently has three anchor tenants as well as an array of retail outlets varying from information technology stores, appliances and general household stores, and a fitness centre, among others.
