Jeremy’s replacements identified

-

NATIONAL Men’s doubles head coach Cheah Soon Kit revealed that three candidates have been shortlisted to fill the void left by Jeremy Gan.

Soon Kit said yesterday the names of the three candidates are with the BAM, and it is now up to the national body to call them up for interviews.

“I have listed three names and BAM will call them for an interview.”

“We will evaluate the candidates and make a decision but if it were up to me, I would want it as soon as possible.

“For me, the most important thing is for the selected coach to be able to work together with Rosman Razak (men’s doubles coach) and I to continue the programme that has been planned,” said Soon Kit during a training session at the Badminton Academy of Malaysia in Bukit Kiara, yesterday.

Although the names were not revealed, it is understood that three former doubles shuttlers, Lee Wan Wah, Chew Choon Eng and Chan Chong Ming have been on BAM’s radar.

“I cannot reveal the candidates yet, just wait for the announcement,” he said.

“But like I said, if it were up to me, the faster the better and maybe before the end of this year.”

When asked whether there will be more than one appointment for the men’s doubles coaching position, Soon Kit, who is an 1996 Atlanta Olympic silver medallist with Yap Kim Hock, said there is a possibility. Helmi Talkah
