DIVER TO KNOW FATE THIS WEEKEND

B sample will be tested in Delhi today

-

FADHLI ISHAK fadhli.ishak@nst.com.my leaving for Delhi today (yesterday).

“The results of the test should be known within three days.”

The two other athletes who tested positive at KL2017 are not Malaysian.

Tunku Imran added that both athletes, as well as the athlete who declined a re-test, are very likely to be stripped of their medals should their B samples also test positive.

“It is not up to us or the Sea Games Federation (SGF) to do the sanctioning, it is up to the national (sports) associations and international bodies to determine that (the length of their suspensions).

“It (suspensions) is out of our hands in this matter, the only sanction that the Sea Games Federation is able to do is to withdraw the medals and reallocate them.

“In that case (reallocation), the athlete has a right to be heard and there will an inquiry (SGF).

“Where it concerns Malaysia, our people will not be involved in the inquiry as it would be a conflict of interest.”

The Malaysian diver had tested positive for sibutramine, an appetite suppressant mainly used for weight loss. Should the B sample also turn out positive, the diver could be suspended for up to two years.

Meanwhile, Tunku Imran disclosed that OCM vice president Datuk Mumtaz Jaffar has been offered the position of Malaysian chef-de-mission for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games.

Irene Cheow, mother of national figure skater Julian Yee, has been selected as team manager after being recommended by the Ice Skating Association of Malaysia. Julian has qualified for the Winter Games next year.
