MACC DEVISES CORRUPTION RANKING SYSTEM FOR MINISTRIES

-

PUTRAJAYA: In a more concerted effort to combat corruption, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has come up with a corruption ranking system for all ministries.

Its chief commissioner, Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad, said the MACC ranking system was modelled after the South Korean corruption integrity assessment system and would be done annually.

“We are done with ranking all ministries.

“I will announce the results to the public in November or December,” Dzulkifli said after attending the Plantation Industries and Commodities Ministry’s anti-corruption pledge yesterday.

Present was Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong.

The assessment criteria, according to Dzulkifli, was endorsed by international experts.

The ministries will be classified as “Top 10 Most Problematic Ministries” and “The Best Top 5”.

“We created the ranking system so that the top 10 most problematic ministries can improve. We want them to have an increased sense of responsibility and accountability.”

Reiterating that MACC had zero tolerance of corruption, Dzulkifli said more aggressive measures would be taken to ensure that the public services could be cleaned up in three years.

However, he declined to reveal the list of Top 10 most corrupt ministries or discuss the investigations into the alleged embezzlement of funds in a few ministries and government agencies.

“Let it be a surprise. I will announce it in a month or two,” he said.

“After we are done with ministries, we will start ranking government departments and agencies.

When asked if the Plantation Industries and Commodities Ministry was ranked as one of the cleanest ministries, Dzulkifli said he would rate it as having a low risk of being corrupted.
