TNB Repair And Maintenance Sdn Bhd (TNB Remaco) and Cement Industries Malaysia Bhd will partner up in a RM200 million joint venture to generate electricity from waste heat.

TNB Remaco, a subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), yesterday signed a term sheet agreement with Negeri Sembilan Cement Industries Sdn Bhd (NSCI), a 100 per cent subsidiary of Cement Industries Malaysia Bhd (CIMA), to generate electricity from waste heat from the NSCI’s plants on a build-own-maintain-and-transfer basis.

Under the agreement, TNB Remaco will develop, design, construct, commission, operate, maintain and raise financing for the waste heat recovery power plant (WHRPP).

“The WHRPP will have a combined power generation capability of 23 megawatt (MW) by recovering the exhausted waste heat from the cement plants in Bahau, Negri Sembilan and Bukit Keteri, Perlis.

“The project will have an estimated total value of RM200 million with capability in reducing up to between nine and 12 per cent of NSCI’s electricity cost,” the national utility company announced in a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday.

The term sheet signing was held on the sidelines of the threeday International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia 2017 (IGEM) which ends tomorrow.

The deal was inked by TNB Remaco managing director Anuar Yusoff and CIMA managing director Mohd Yusri Md Yusof.

The WHRPP will contribute towards green energy and energy efficiency via a reduction of carbon emissions as well as competitive advantage through energy cost savings for NSCI cement plants.

TNB Remaco’s venture into the waste heat recovery will provide new business opportunities in energy efficiency, green-technology and sustainable long-term energy solutions.
