PetDag, TNBES and GreenTech will monitor growth to meet market demand

PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd (PetDag) has signed a tripartite agreement with Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) and Malaysian Green Technology Corp (GreenTech Malaysia) to set up at least 100 electric vehicles (EVs) charging stations (ChargEV) by next year.

They will also look into installing solar photovoltaic (PV) panels at 100 selected stations to power the ChargEV.

PetDag signed the agreement with TNB’s wholly-owned TNB Energy Services Sdn Bhd (TNBES) and GreenTech Malaysia at the 8th International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia yesterday.

The companies said the threeway strategic partnership will also look at ways to increase the number of ChargEV stations to cater to the growing market demand.

“We will continue to monitor the market response from time to time and will not hesitate to gradually increase the number of ChargEV stations should there be a rising demand for the facility,” said the companies.

“We will also look into installing solar PV panels at 100 selected stations, therefore, the energy used to power the ChargEV will be fully renewable and completely carbon-free, making it truly green,” said PetDag managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Ibrahimnuddin Mohd Yunus.

Its commitment towards the greenification of Petronas stations is in support of Malaysia’s target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45 per cent by 2030 as pledged during the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference.

Under the partnership, GreenTech Malaysia and TNBES will assist in transforming the selected 100 stations into energy-efficient stations by implementing energy-efficient lightings and air-conditioners, and integrating an energy management system in each of these stations.

The partnership is an extension from the memorandum of understanding signed between PetDag and GreenTech Malaysia last year to install 66 ChargEV stations.
