Stu­dent among those held

KUALA LUMPUR: Po­lice yes­ter­day con­firmed the ar­rests of sev­eral peo­ple, in­clud­ing a secondary school stu­dent, for plan­ning to launch ter­ror at­tacks in the coun­try.

It is learnt that the ar­rests be­gan in Ke­lan­tan on Tues­day, and that a bomb ex­pert was among those de­tained.

In­spec­tor-Gen­eral of Po­lice Tan Sri Mo­hamad Fuzi Harun de­clined to di­vulge de­tails of the in­ves­ti­ga­tion as it was still in its early stages.

“I can con­firm that we have ar­rested more than one (per­son) be­lieved to be in­volved in the (planned) at­tack.

“I will re­lease a state­ment in the next two or three days (on the in­ves­ti­ga­tion),” he said yes­ter­day.

Fuzi was speaking af­ter wit­ness­ing a duty-han­dover cer­e­mony for the Com­mer­cial Crime In­ves­ti­ga­tion Depart­ment (CCID), and Strate­gic Re­sources and Tech­nol­ogy Depart­ment (StaRT) di­rec­tors.

CCID di­rec­tor Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Ab­dul­lah Sani will take over from StaRT di­rec­tor Datuk Seri Abd Manan Mohd Has­san, who is re­tir­ing af­ter serv­ing the force for nearly 41 years.

City po­lice chief Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh is suc­ceed­ing Acryl Sani.

On an­other mat­ter, Fuzi said po­lice were main­tain­ing their stance on the planned “Sayangi Malaysia, Ha­puskan Klep­tokrasi” rally, say­ing that ac­tion would be taken against its or­gan­is­ers de­spite they hav­ing ob­tained per­mis­sion from the Pe­tal­ing Jaya City Coun­cil.

“We learnt that the Pe­tal­ing Jaya mayor gave ap­proval for the rally at Padang Timur, but we have re­ceived 27 re­ports against the rally, com­plain­ing that it would af­fect traf­fic in the area.

“We are propos­ing a bet­ter venue, the Ke­lana Jaya Sta­dium, for the rally. If they fail to ad­here to this in­struc­tion, ac­tion will be taken against them,” Fuzi said.

The Pakatan Hara­pan-led an­tik­lep­toc­racy rally is sched­uled to take place at Padang Timur from 4pm un­til mid­night to­day.
