Jamil Khir, Jakim D-G to seek audience with Johor sultan

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom and Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) director-general Tan Sri Othman Mustapha will seek an audience with Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar to resolve the issue involving one of its officers who allegedly criticised the ruler’s decree.

Othman said the department held the ruler’s order for the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAIJ) to stop dealing with Jakim in the highest regard.

He added that Jamil Khir and he would seek an audience with the ruler as soon as possible.

“Jamil Khir and I will seek an audience with the sultan as soon as possible.

“This is with regard to the issue involving the Jakim officer at Kajang Prison, ustaz Zamihan Mat Zain, who gave a religious talk about the Muslim-friendly launderette, and whose video has been making its rounds on social media,” he said.

The sultan of Johor had yesterday ordered JAIJ to stop dealing with Jakim.

This was in response to Zamihan’s remarks during a religious talk held at the Tengku Ampuan Jemaah mosque in Bukit Jelutong on Oct 8.

Federal police Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said Zamihan was released from the Dang Wangi police headquarters on police bail.
