‘RALLY WAS AS DULL AS LIVERPOOL-MU MATCH’
People don’t want to hear recycled rhetoric, says MCA spokesman
PAKATAN Harapan’s approach of recycling same issues was the main reason why its “Anti-Kleptocracy Rally” became “as dull as the Liverpool and Manchester United match” on Saturday.
In saying this, MCA publicity spokesman Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker yesterday said the low turnout of about 4,000 people was a clear message to DAP and its adviser, Lim Kit Siang, that people were fed up with the lies and promises of the opposition.
“They are not braving the sun or rain to hear the same rhetoric again and again.
“The rally looked as dull as the Liverpool and Manchester United match on Saturday that promised action but delivered nothing.
“Many pictures were being shared online since 1pm on Saturday, and the afternoon crowd was so miserable that many opposition leaders were urging people to come through their social media sites,” he said.
The rally, which was held at Padang Timur, Petaling Jaya failed to reach its target of 100,000 participants, although big names from the opposition, such as Lim, Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali were present.
Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor said only about 4,000 people attended the rally, while other news portals estimated that around 5,000 to 8,000 people attended the demonstration.
Ti said despite the venue being controlled by DAP assemblymen, the crowd looked weak and unenthusiastic.
“This is a clear sign of the change to come. People will reject the alliance of Lim and Dr Mahathir, and that was evident during the rally.”
Sharing a similar opinion was Universiti Malaya political analyst Dr Awang Azman Awang Pawi, who said the low turnout was due to the people already expecting opposition leaders to recycle the same issues and that “there will be nothing new”.
“The rally looked like a place for them (opposition leaders) to pour out their emotions and sentiments.
“It was not focused on policies that could actually spark interest in the people.
“Besides, this rally looked exactly the same like the opposition’s previous rallies, only with a new theme. Basically, it’s just to criticise the government,” he said.
