Authorities probe video of student being beaten
KUANTAN: The state Education Department is investigating the authenticity of a video purportedly showing a girl being bullied and beaten by a group of girls near a staircase, which has gone viral.
State Education Department director Datuk Rosdi Ismail said he was waiting for an update from his officers on whether the victim and the bullies were from a secondary school here or the incident took place in another district.
“We are trying to identify if those in the clip are female students from a secondary school in Pahang. At this moment, we cannot confirm the authenticity of the video.
“However, the video clip is very disturbing and if it occurred in Pahang, those responsible should face punishment for their actions,” he said yesterday.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Aziz Salleh said the department had not received any reports on the incident and were investigating the matter.
“The victim and her family members have not lodged a report. We are investigating the source of the video,” he said.
Teruntum assemblyman Sim Chon Siang said he was trying to get in touch with a social media user who had posted comments about the incident on Facebook.
“Several people have posted messages about the incident, but one of them seems to have detailed information about the incident, its location and might even recognise the girls in the picture. I have messaged the person to clarify her claims that the girls in the video are from a secondary school in Kuantan,” he said, adding that he was waiting for the reply.
It was alleged that the victim in the video clip was a Form Five student from a school here.
The bullies pulled down the victim’s pants and lifted her shirt over her head.
One of the attackers slapped the victim before repeatedly hitting her face with a shoe.
The victim, who was lying on the floor by then, pleaded with the girls to stop. Other girls, who were looking on, then roughed up the victim before recording the incident on their handphones.
