ONE of three Bangladeshi men deported from Malaysia over alleged ties with Islamic State has been reported missing. According to the Dhaka Tribune, Golam Rabbani’s wife, Nazia Ferdousi, who is in Malaysia with her three children, last spoke to him on July 19.

The report said Golam had called his wife using a co-passenger mobile phone minutes before the Malindo Air flight he was on took off at 10pm.

Golam’s sister, Nigar Sultana, was also said to have spoken to him that night.

This was the last time he contacted his family. He has not arrived home in Bogra nor has he made further contact with his wife.

An official from the Bangladesh police headquarters, who requested anonymity, told the Dhaka Tribune that Golam was deported from Malaysia earlier this year, but could not say which agency picked him up from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

However, Noor-EAzam, officer-incharge at the airport’s police station, said he was not aware of any such deportation.

“No one has filed a general diary or a case about Golam going missing,” he was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, federal police Special Branch’s Counter-Terrorism Division assistant director Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the matter was under the jurisdiction of the Bangladeshi police.
