-

MUAR: A 28-year-old man was stabbed to death by a family member during an argument at their home in Sungai Abong here on Saturday.

Police arrested the 17-year-old suspect after she confessed to the murder.

It is learnt that the argument stemmed from the victim’s failure to return home after two days, among others.

The man was a butcher at a wet market near here.

Neighbours found the victim, who was stabbed in the chest, lying motionless in his living room. The family member was sitting near the body.

Muar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Zaharudin Rasip yesterday said police were notified of a domestic disturbance at 1.43pm.

He said a team was despatched to the home in Taman Pertama Indah, Sungai Abong here.

He said neighbours heard shouts coming from the house, followed by an abrupt silence.

He said this prompted neighbours to check on the family.

After discovering what had happened, they called the police.

“Police arrived and arrested the teen and seized a knife, believed to be the murder weapon.

“We recorded her statement and she admitted to stabbing the victim during a scuffle in the living room.

“The victim was believed to have been stabbed on the right side of the chest,” said Zaharudin.

He said police were looking into other motives behind the stabbing.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The victim’s mother said the victim was not at work on Friday, and she could not reach him on his mobile phone.

She said she accepted the incident as fate, and that what the teen did was between her and God.

The victim will be buried at the Bakri Muslim cemetery in Batu Enam here after a post-mortem at Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital.
