EDUCATION Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid yesterday said the 21st century learning method (PAK-21) will be expanded to all schools in five years.

He said with PAK-21, which involved the use of smart gadgets in classrooms, whiteboards and blackboards would be replaced with smartboards.

Teachers, he said, would be moderators, making teaching and learning more interactive and interesting.

Mahdzir said the smartboard, which was linked to smart gadgets provided to students, would ensure smooth running of the class session as teachers could search for material on the Internet and show it to students.

He said several schools had implemented PAK-21, funded with the cooperation of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), alumni associations of the schools and the private sector.

“We hope Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will provide an allocation in the 2018 Budget for the renovation of smart classrooms.

“Not all classrooms will be transformed into smart classrooms. Maybe two or three at each school,” he said after attending a gathering with Umno veterans in Kampung Kubang Bemban here.

On Friday, Najib visited SMK Putrajaya Presint 8(1) to observe PAK-21 in action.

He was briefed on the use of the smartboard.

He also observed how teachers interacted with students.

Najib congratulated the Education Ministry for the trial of PAK-21 and expressed hope that the method could be expanded to all schools.
