DHUA eyes skills and training exchange programme with Geely

-

KUALA LUMPUR: DRB-HICOM University of Automotive Malaysia (DHUA), the fullyowned education subsidiary of DRB-HICOM Bhd, is mulling over establishing a skills and training exchange programme with Zhejiang Geely Holding Group for its graduate students.

DHUA vice-chancellor and chief executive officer Prof Datuk Dr Omar Osman said the idea had been raised at group level and the university was working out details with DRB-HICOM and Geely.

Geely is Proton Holdings Bhd’s foreign strategic partner.

“We are ready to respond with Proton’s new strategic partner in the areas of education and training,” he told NST Business recently.

As the exchange framework is still in the early planning stage, it will take about a year or so before the first batch of DHUA students arrive in China for training.

If the collaboration was successful, Omar said DHUA’s automotive and engineering students would be able to acquire advanced automotive skills from Geely’s team in China.

Omar said DHUA’s diploma holders who had completed their studies should consider pursing degree or masters programmes at the university.

“This would greatly help students achieve better exposure in the challenging and fast-evolving automotive industry.”

Omar said since May, DHUA had started its postgraduate intake, offering Master’s of Business Administration, Master’s of Science by Research in science and engineering and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in business.

“Next month, we will offer Master’s of Management, Master’s of Supply Chain Management and another batch of PhD in business and management.

“This year, we target to have about 80 postgraduate students, both full-time and part-time, for our two-year programme which will complete our university ecosystem.”

He said the first batch of postgraduate students would complete their Masters programmes in 2019. John Gilbert
