Police reports lodged against Dr M

-

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor NonGovernmental Organisations Coalition has lodged a police report against Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for allegedly insulting the Bugis community and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak during the “Sayangi Malaysia, Hapuskan Kleptokrasi” rally at Padang Timur, Petaling Jaya last Saturday.

The coalition chairman, Nazilah Idris, said Dr Mahathir’s statement that the Bugis were pirates and asking them to go back to where they came from was highly inappropriate.

“It is an insult to the prime minister, the royal institution and even the sultan of Selangor by saying that the Bugis are pirates. It is a condemned act and unethical of a former prime minister and statesman.

“It is unfair to Malays of Bugis ancestry in Malaysia when Dr Mahathir said those who had strayed into Malaysia to go back to Sulawesi. It is very insensitive and hurtful to talk of someone’s roots (like that), especially in Malaysia, which is a multiracial country.

“We must respect the different religions and cultures for Malaysia’s prosperity and wellbeing. I urge the police to investigate Dr Mahathir for his actions which could disrupt peace and harmony. The police should not tolerate those who are insolent towards the country’s leadership and do nothing but play dirty politics,” said Nazilah yesterday after making a police report at the police headquarters here.

A similar report was made at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters yesterday.

In her report, Nazilah also called the police to probe the action of several people who had used the Jalur Gemilang as a mat to sit on during the rally.
