Owner of crashed plane told to retrieve wreckage

-

MELAKA: The owner of the crashed GT500 Microlight aircraft has two weeks to remove the wreckage from a river here.

Sungai Rambai assemblyman Datuk Hassan Abd Rahman said extrication works must be carried out as soon as possible to avoid disrupting the marine habitat in nearby Sungai Kesang.

“The river has a potential to be developed into a tourist recreational centre with tourism projects, including a river cruise.

“So, I urge all parties to retrieve the wreckage as soon as possible,” he said while attending a Deepavali open house hosted by Gadek assemblyman Datuk M.S. Mahadevan in Paya Rumput here yesterday.

He said the retrieval of the wreckage would facilitate the Civil Aviation Authority’s investigations into the incident.

On Oct 14, a pilot was killed while his co-pilot was injured after the GT500 Microlight aircraft they were in crashed in Sungai Mati, at the border of Melaka and Johor, at 11.30am.

The body of Yee Yoon Fah, 54, was sent to Tangkak Hospital while co-pilot Mohd Shahrul Shafiri, 35, who suffered injuries in the face and body, received treatment at Muar Hospital.

Hassan, who is Sungai Rambai Aerodrome chairman, said the operations at the aerodrome had resumed on Tuesday after it was temporarily halted following the crash.

He said the cost of retrieving the wreckage would be borne by the aircraft owner.

Hasan said investigations revealed that the owner was given permission to park the aircraft at the aerodrome, but not to fly it.
