MAN CHARGED WITH RAPING 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL

He allegedly raped her 3 times at hotel

A30-YEAR-OLD man was charged at the magistrate’s court yesterday with three counts of raping an underage teenager six months ago.

The man appeared calm when he was produced before magistrate Mohd Hafizi Abdul Halim yesterday.

He was charged with raping the victim, 14, three times at a hotel here between 3am and 6am in April.

The charges made against him under Section 376(2)(d) of the Penal Code carries a maximum 30 years’ jail sentence and whipping upon conviction. No plea was recorded from the accused.

Hafizi fixed bail at RM7,000 with two sureties for each of the charges. He fixed Nov 3 as mention pending submission­s of documents under Section 51A of the Criminal Procedure Code.

He ordered the suspect to report to the Lawas district police station once a week.

The accused was also ordered to refrain from making contact with the victim.

Inspector Idrus Arshad prosecuted, while the accused, who was represente­d by counsel Sam Layar, posted bail.

He is the third person to be charged. Last Friday, the victim’s mother, 30, was jointly charged with a 45-year-old karaoke centre operator with forcing the victim into prostituti­on in April.

Both women were accused of prostituti­ng the victim at a hotel here at about 3am. They were charged under Section 372(1)(a) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum of 15 years’ jail and whipping and a fine upon conviction.
