Queen’s Baton Relay comes to KL

-

BATA Malaysia, a main sponsor of the national contingent for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games next year, was given the honour of hosting the Queen’s Baton Relay held in conjunction with the games on Tuesday.

The Queen’s Baton Relay, which carries a message from Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II, will be in Malaysia until Saturday after which it will head to Brunei.

Bata Malaysia corporate business development senior director Datuk James Selvaraj said the company is proud to play its part in sports development in the country.

“As a former national athlete who has competed for Malaysia at the Commonwealth Games, being able to hold the baton which contains a message from the queen (Elizabeth II) is a great experience,” said the former national shuttler.

“This baton will be brought to the Gold Coast where the message in it will be read by the Commonwealth Games Federation president.

“We are very proud to be able to work together with the Queens Baton Relay and become a part of Team Malaysia.

“Bata will be the shoe sponsor for the Malaysian contingent competing in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. We have been sponsor of the national contingent for the past 20 years and will continue to do so for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.”

The Queen’s Baton Relay began at Buckingham Palace in London on March 13. Malaysia is the 54th country from 70 Commonwealth nations that will host the relay prior to it reaching Australia on Dec 24. Sukhairi Thani
