THE mother of a 16month-old toddler, who was bitten by a dog in Taman Banang Heights here on Monday, is still traumatised.
Noor Fazilah Ishak, 30, said her daughter, Ainin Syuhadah Syahrul Nizam, was bitten by the dog after her brother, 17, lost control of the motorcycle that she and her two daughters were on.
“We were on our way home after visiting a relative at the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital when my brother lost control of the motorcycle that we were riding while trying to avoid a parked lorry on the road side that had suddenly moved,” Noor Fazilah said.
“This caused us to fall in front of a shophouse.
“The dog, which was tied to a beam in front of the premises, was probably startled by the crash and bit Ainin Syuhadah on the head.”
She said passersby came to their aid and managed to get the dog to release its grip.
Ainin Syuhadah was taken to a hospital where she received stitches on her head and ear.
The incident was recorded on a closed-circuit television camera at the premises, and the video became viral on social media.
Noor Fazilah said she hoped social media users would stop making assumptions on the incident, including accusing her brother of having taken illegal substances at the time of the accident.
“I am disappointed with comments made by social media users, including accusing the dog owner of being irresponsible when, in fact, the owner has been cooperative and even visited my daughter in the hospital.
“We have lodged a police report and referred the incident to the Veterinary Department. We do not want to prolong the issue.”
Batu Pahat police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Wahib Musa said the case was being investigated under Section 289 of the Penal Code for negligence with respect to an animal and Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 (LN 166/59).
It is believed that the dog has been handed over to the Veterinary Department.
We do not want to prolong the issue.
